"The Future Has Arrived"
25/03/2011During his recent tour of Brazil, these were the words of the U.S President Barack Obama in regards to Brazil’s flourishing economy. In contrast to recent events in the Middle East and in Northern Africa Obama hailed Brazil’s emerging economy and has portrayed Brazil as a beacon of democracy.
Obama’s outlook upon Brazil reflected the economical prospects Brazil has to offer in the forthcoming years. Obama cited that Brazil was “harvesting the fruits of its development” and was keen to voice his support towards Brazil’s future economic ventures seeking to be “strategic energy partners”
Brazil’s energy production company Petrobras is one of the largest Bio-Ethanol producers in the world. This accompanied by Brazil’s recent discovery of oil in the off the coast region of Santos Basin has lead the U.S president to express his to desire for the U.S to be their “best consumer” once refined. The American government is also set to invest $1Billion to help this process. Brazilian-U.S trade relations are likely to further strengthen with suggestions of a bio-lateral trade agreement on the cards.
Due to Brazil’s booming economy, migration to Brazil has doubled between
2006-2010 and recent economic progress has moved Brazil, up a position to 7th in the world economic rankings. This has been aided by a 15 % decrease in unemployment during 2010 which is the result of a growing demand for a workforce to complete the construction of infrastructure and renovation required to match Brazil’s World cup (2014) and Olympic (2016) requirements.
This rapid growth in the economy has positively affected Brazilian real estate and figures show that two years ago 4.2 million families had intentions to buy property in Brazil. In 2010 this figure doubled as a result of improvements in salaries, education and living conditions, coupled with one of the world’s fastest growing middle classes has been toted as some of the reason for this rise in demand.
There is also a proposed deal between the two states with regards to sharing
outer-space uses and satellites. The Brazilian’s have a launch facility near the equator which the U.S has stated hope of gaining further use of this resource. It seems Brazilian-U.S affairs are destined for great heights.
