Delta Airline’s Codesharing Agreement opens Joao Pessoa and Recife to the USA
03/02/2011US airline giant Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) announced today the start of a codesharing agreement with Brazilian airline Gol, in which Joao Pessoa and Recife are on the list of destination airports within the agreement. Gol is the most respected airline carrier in Brazil and this agreement opens major cities of the USA including New York JFK, Detroit and Atlanta who already fly to Sao Paolo, Brasilia and Rio De Janeiro to purchase direct connecting flights at source to 15 major destinations throughout Brazil including Joao Pessoa and Recife international airports.
Joao Pessoa already takes daily flights from every major city throughout Brazil. Delta currently operates over 30 nonstop weekly flights between the USA to Brazil and this agreement suggests that Delta plan to increase this significantly as their customers now have easier access to many more cities across Brazil. Add to this the agreement to share frequent flyer air miles between Delta and Gol put in place last year, business travel is expected to rise also.
With American Airlines along with KLM, Iberia, Air France, Condor, United, Air Canada, US Airways Air Italy and Continental also flying direct from destinations across the USA and Europe flying into Recife a surge in international visitors to both Brazil and its north east coast is anticipated over the next few years.
